The Cake House has been on my TBR pile for at least four years and was a surprisingly hard book for me to find. Not online, it’s easy enough to find on Amazon. But I was never able to find it at my library or at Indigo/Chapters which surprised me. Honestly, I don’t know a lot about Beowulf. I only read a snippet of it in high school, and picking up this book I knew I’d be reading it more as a book than as an adaption. I was intrigued by the idea of an adaption of Beowulf set in the suburbs, even if my memory on the original myth is fuzzy and incomplete. But still, I enjoyed it, and if anything it made me want to read Beowulf so that I could see the connections Dahvana Headley weaved into her work. Continue reading
