Library Loot

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Linda from Silly Little Mischief that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library.

I returned two books to the bookmobile and picked up two more. I’m never going to be able to read any of the books I’ve bought!

So, I wasn’t even planning on picking up any books when I went to the Bookmobile, since I already have so many books out, but these two looked so interesting, and Heartless has been tempting me for weeks.

Diary of a Haunting: Possession by M. VeranoWritten in diary entries, Laetitia Jones wants to be famous and she knows that someday she will be. But suddenly she gets sick with a mysterious illness and is forced to stay indoors at home. With nothing else to do, Laetitia watches the news, which talks about an increase of race riots slowly making their way to her neighborhood, and writes her strange symptoms in her diary. I haven’t read a creepy book in a while, and the premise for this sounded interesting, also YAY FOR DIVERSE YA COVERS!

Heartless by Leah RhyneIn this modern retelling of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Jolene Hall is newly dead…kind of. After being kidnapped and used as a horrific human guinea pig for torturous experiments, Jolene can walk, talk, and think like people are supposed to, but her heart doesn’t beat, and she doesn’t breathe anymore. Wanting to know more about her kidnapper, and how much longer she has to live, Jo and her friends go in search of her kidnapper, but only ends up putting her friends in more danger. The title got me first, then the clockwork heart, and third was a modern retelling of Frankenstein. I haven’t heard anything about this book, so I’m curious about what it will be like!

What’s your library loot for this week?
